Julie Mason and the Jazz Divas recapture the glamour and glitz
of yesteryear in a tribute to the Great American Songbook.
Starting with a set of solo renditions of great hits, followed by a set of stunning four-part vocal harmonies, four ladies in glamorous gowns- Julie Mason, Trudy Lile, Susan De Jong and Jennine Bailey/Jenny Eirena will make this a night to remember! The Divas present music from the 1950’s through to the present day, from Cole Porter and Rogers & Hart through to Tom Jobim and Tom Waits.
Backed by a band of New Zealand’s finest jazz musicians led by one of this country’s most outstanding pianists, Phil Broadhurst, Auckland-based fine German bassist Olivier Holland, and widely-respected drummer Jason Orme complete the star-studded line-up.
This stunning jazz vocal collective have presented sell-out concerts around the New Zealand festival circuit, and have just released their debut album “Charmed Life”, available through ODE Records.

JULIE MASON & THE JAZZ DIVAS….The Artists
Pianist/vocalist Julie Mason has been a featured artist with the Auckland Philharmonia, and has performed at major festivals through Australasia as well as jazz clubs in Berlin and Paris. Her third solo album “Estate” was a finalist in the NZ Jazz Album of the Year awards in 2005. She is currently teaching jazz vocals and keyboards at The New Zealand School of Music’s Albany campus.
Vocalist Susan de Jong, on study leave (Masters of Music) from her full-on job as head of the CPIT Jazz School, conducts choirs and sings in well-known Christchurch vocal group Volare. She has released two solo albums, ”It’s About Time” and “I Hear Music”, the second a collaboration with renowned pianist Doug Caldwell.
Trudy Lile, jazz flautist, and singer, is one of Auckland’s busiest musicians, and she has performed extensively throughout New Zealand with her band Mojave since releasing her debut CD Ristretto in 2004. She is currently undertaking her masters Degree in Jazz performance at the NZSM.
Jennine Bailey is a graduate of the CPIT Jazz School, and now teaches jazz vocals at the school, along with gigging regularly around the Christchurch area, and is a regular featured artist in Christchurch’s Christmas In The Park. She released her first album “You Go To My Head” in 2003. She recently starred (with rave reviews) in the lead female role of “Jesus Christ Superstar” in a local Christchurch production.
Popular vocalist Jenny Eirena is based in Warkworth, north of Auckland, and keeps busy on the Auckland scene as vocalist with Zingaro, and The Prohibition Big Band. A versatile singer, she has made various television appearances and sung at Christmas In The Park. She is a regular featured artist at the Rakino Island Jazz Festival, and has studied jazz vocals at the NZSM in Albany.
